Wikipedia | I still think this is amazing. It’s probably more striking if you remember the days of having to look things up in paper encyclopaedias, on Yahoo in 1997, and on pages of misinformation spread across forums and sites across the internet. I know it’s not all good, but it’s definitely great.
Mediawiki | The software that runs Wikipedia. That we worked without this (at work) for several years is a sign that taking time out to plan and look for better ways of doing things is almost always worthwhile. Conclusions should be remembered, the details can be left in a well documented, searchable wiki!
Animals Australia | Yep, I like these guys. I’m not one to make a comment as someone eats a big pile of meat, but I think society’s attitudes to animals are pretty weird, and the (surprising number of) people who act like they’re a bit of a free-thinking maverick for being proud of eating meat strike me as anything but. But.. on a less antagonistic note – Animal’s Australia do it pretty mildly, with gentle, well planned campaigns, considering their field.
Marine Traffic | If this doesn’t inspire the romantic traveller in you then maybe you don’t have one. Much like..
Plane Finder | Which is quite similar to flightradar. The FAA data, coloured orange, is delayed by a few minutes, but the rest of the world is in real time. You can see where the plane thundering overhead is going, which is pretty cool.
Falkenblog | This guy’s writing really appeals to me. This article on Taleb especially; I bought the Black Swan on whim after reading incredibly positive reviews, and while initially it’s quite appealing, mainly because you think he’s going somewhere, a growing sense of doubt and, eventually an outright rejection, accompany any sane reading of it, in my opinion.
